V-Card Diaries: Ruth "Our first time was a bit awkward, but we laughed it off and tried again"

Today we're highlighting Ruth in Iowa, who is 22 and knew she had found the right person to have sex with almost immediately. If you want to tell your story, go to our submission form. You can find all our V-Card Diaries here. Tell us about yourself:

I'm a 22-year-old female college senior living in Iowa.

How do you define virginity?

Penile-vaginal penetration, I suppose. But that's just a personal definition for myself. I think virginity varies from person to person, especially if someone does not identify as heterosexual. I also believe someone can still consider him or herself a virgin even if they were raped, because losing your virginity should be a personal decision.

Tell us your story

I lost my virginity last summer when I was 21. It's not that I hadn't had any opportunities before that, but I wanted my first time to be with the right person. I recognized this guy as the right person almost immediately, and we had sex three days after we met. He was also a virgin, and like most people's first times, ours was a bit awkward, but we laughed it off and tried again. I experienced no pain or bleeding. Afterwards, we just laid there and talked for hours. I'll always remember that night as fun and romantic.
